The Ven. Dr. Mark Stevenson

Mark Stevenson first walked in the door of Church of the Ascension in 1979 when a graduate student at Pitt. He was warmly greeted and decided to stay.

Mark met his wife, The Rev. Canon Karen Baker Stevenson here, they were married here, and both ordained to serve here. They left in 2000 to serve at Trinity Church, Washington, PA and returned to Pittsburgh early this year when Karen was offered the position of Canon for Mission with the Anglican Diocese of Pittsburgh. He is the long-time Archdeacon of the diocese (thus the title, Venerable).

Mark had a long career as a professor of theatre and as an actor in Pittsburgh before moving to Trinity School for Ministry. He retired in 2016 from his position as the Academic Dean at the seminary. He continues to pursue acting and is excited to be serving in a new (as of 2019) part-time role as Ascension’s Deacon for Congregational Care! So… from 1979 to 2019. It’s been a 40-year journey beginning at Ascension and coming back to Ascension.
