“And when did we see You a stranger, and invite You in, or naked, and clothe You?”  – Matthew 25:38

Each week at Ascension during the academic year there are an average of 60 – 80 Internationals who attend English classes in the mornings or evenings, participate in several different English Bible studies, attend young adult community groups, eat dinner with families, spend a holiday like Thanksgiving or Christmas with a family, attend an Ascension service on Sundays, join in field trips, meet for conversation or discipleship with a church member, volunteer with a church member to help a nonprofit, live within a church host family for a whole semester. In fact, over 460 students from over 40 countries have come to Ascension’s English classes at some point since we began a formal ministry for Internationals in 2016.

Our students come from all over the world – China, Iraq, Brazil, India, Japan, Saudi Arabia, Spain, Iran, Chile and Egypt, to name just a few.

There are many opportunities for you to get involved with the International Ministry at Ascension. If you think you would like to help in one of the ways listed below (or in another way), please fill out the form by filling out this form or by using the link at the bottom of the page or contact PittsburghEnglish4U@gmail.com We ask that you be an active church member at Ascension or involved in Ascension or another church in some way.

Here are ways to serve:

  • Teach or assist with a weekly English as a second language class  – lead teachers, assistant teachers, greeters, those willing to correct papers and test new students
  • Become a conversation partner with an International  – you can meet casually as much as you like, either in person or online.
  • Prepare a meal or help provide snacks for our weekly International Ministry gatherings
  • Host an International in your home, regularly or during a special holiday like Thanksgiving or Christmas
