The Rev. Jess Bennett

Jess grew up on the Northside of Pittsburgh and has been deeply involved in church life since she was young. She attended, volunteered, and would eventually serve on the youth ministry staff at Allegheny Center Alliance Church (ACAC), a diverse church community on the Northside of the city. She attended Moody Bible Institute in Chicago for college, originally as a music major, but after spending a summer as an intern with missionaries in Ecuador, felt a call to ministry and changed her direction, majoring in International & Biblical Studies.

During her first week of classes at Moody in January 2013, she met Josh, a tall, handsome freshman in her New Testament class. After a long story that’s rather fun to tell, they dated and were married the summer before senior year. Following graduation, they spent 8 months overseas with missionaries in Eastern Europe, returning to Pittsburgh to attend Trinity School for Ministry in 2017. During their three years in seminary, Jess and Josh gained hands-on ministry experience serving on staff with Student Ministries back at ACAC, and truly loved every moment there. Since they had so much free time, they went ahead and welcomed two children, Charlie (born in 2018) and Ruth (born in 2019). They graduated with their Masters in Divinity in May 2020 with a big sigh of relief! Jess emerged from seminary with a deeper, solidified conviction in her call to pastoral ministry and was ordained as a Deacon in May of 2022.

The Bennetts are thrilled to be on the Ascension staff to be equipped and mentored with the goal of being ordained to the priesthood in the Anglican church and giving their lives to serve as shepherds of God’s flock — wherever that may be! Jess loves good talks over coffee, thrift shopping, charcuterie boards and the joy of motherhood.
