Chris Kirkland grew up in Sewickley, just outside of Pittsburgh. He grew up within the faith and was baptized in his sophomore year of high school.
After high school, Chris attend Washington and Lee University in Lexington, VA, and there he earned a Bachelor of Arts in History. Throughout his time at Washington and Lee, Chris served as a small group leader for Intervarsity and during Urbana in 2015 he started to discern a call to ministry. After graduating in 2017, he returned to Pittsburgh and attend Trinity School for Ministry where he received a Master of Divinity in 2020.
While studying at Trinity, Chris served as a pastoral intern at Redeemer Anglican Church, a church plant in Bellevue, PA. During this time, Chris also felt a call to serve in campus ministry and after graduation, he entered the CCO Fellows Program. He is currently serving as a CCO Fellow at Church of the Ascension ministering to students at Pitt and CMU. Chris loves discussing theology, philosophy and history and never gets tired of exploring difficult and complex questions. In the summer of 2022 Chris married Ascension’s undergraduate student minister, Leah Hornfeck (now Kirkland)! They love doing student ministry together.
