Catherine Slocum

Catherine SlocumA cradle Anglican, growing up at Saint Paul’s Darien, Connecticut, in the heart of the ‘70’s charismatic renewal movement, Catherine caught the excitement of the gospel at a young age. The daughter of a priest, Catherine has had a lifetime of experience in the church, taking her part in life as a seminarian’s kid while in Alexandria, Virginia, church planting in Lafayette, Louisiana and ministry to an eclectic church on the Upper West side of Manhattan at All Angels’ Church, New York City. During these years, Catherine worked in a variety of positions in service to children and families, not knowing that this would be a pattern that would mark her life.

Catherine met her husband, the Rev. Jay Slocum, while attending The King’s College, New York. The two married in 1992 where they ministered together at Truro Episcopal Church in the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area where Catherine worked on staff as the Director of Communications.

The Slocum’s started their family in 1997 with the birth of their first daughter, Emma. Catherine and Jay moved to Pittsburgh in 1999 while Jay attended seminary at Trinity School for Ministry. Their second daughter Lydia was born in 2001 and from 1999 to 2003, Catherine immersed herself in the life of the church, the seminary and in her desire to invest in the formation of her daughters as those who would love God, serve others, and be a force for good in the world.

From 2003 to 2007 Catherine and Jay worked in the Hilton Head Island area of South Carolina, where they engaged in church planting while raising their young family. These years allowed Catherine to hone her gifts in children’s ministry as she developed several programs for children. From 2007 to 2018, Catherine and her family worked in partnership with the Diocese of Pittsburgh, Church of the Ascension and supporters from around the country, to plant and grow Jonah’s Call Anglican Church where Catherine worked as the Director of Children’s Ministry and as the Director of Parish Life. After completing her work at Jonah’s Call in 2018, Catherine served as the Director of Children and Families Ministry at Newlonsburg Presbyterian Church in Murrysville, PA.

Catherine and Jay currently live in the Forest Hills neighborhood of Pittsburgh where she enjoys time spent investing in family, her Cavalier King Charles Spaniel and savored moments with a cup of tea and time for deep reflection on life.
