This group of musicians seeks to serve Ascension by arranging fresh and creative musical worship for the people who attend the 9 am service. The style ranges from contemporary to folk-style shape note singing to taize chanting. We have volunteers who play guitar, cello, violin, drums, piano, bass and more! Though often contemporary in vibe, we spend a lot of time reworking our favorite ancient hymns and scripture texts, sometimes with new tunes and sometimes embracing the most traditional tunes. We are happy to incorporate classically trained musicians as well as those who play by ear. We work together to produce songs that draw the congregation from a place of observing to a place of belonging and participating.
If you play an instrument, like to sing, or want to learn more about the music we do at 9am, please contact Chris Massa! We always love to incorporate new musicians into our ministry.
