Special Needs Ministry

Did you know….

• That approximately 53 mission people in the US and 15% of teens have a disability?
• That 95% of those with disabilities are unchurched?
• That many families in our community with children or young adults at home who have disabilities have stopped attending church because they don’t feel welcome or it just “doesn’t work”?

Jesus said, “Whoever welcomes one of these (children) in my Name welcomes me.” Church of the Ascension has a loving heart and a welcoming attitude toward individuals with disabilities and their families. In the fall of 2008, God led us to establish a ministry that builds bridges to bring people affected by disability to Jesus.

We offer two programs for those with cognitive disabilities: A weekly Sunday school program called WINGS; and a monthly club called Young Life Capernaum.
