Church of the Ascension supports several organizations actively engaged in sharing Christ’s healing in other countries. We do so financially, through prayer, and through practical initiatives. Some of the mission agencies we are delighted to partner with are described below. We have personal connections with many of these agencies, as several current and former members are employed by them. We hope these brief descriptions give you a flavor for the kind of global ministries Church of the Ascension supports! Simply click on the name of the ministry to go to their websites. If you would like to investigate global outreach further, please contact Conn Thieman, Chair of the Ascension Missions Committee.
Society of Anglican Missionaries and Senders – SAMS is committed to sharing the good news of Jesus in word and deed in partnership with the Anglican Church globally. Church of the Ascension is very happy to be the sending church of Bishop Grant and Dr. Wendy LeMarquand who work and minister in Ethiopia with SAMS. To learn more about the specifics of their work, visit their blog.
Frontiers – The mission of Frontiers is, with love and respect, to invite all Muslim peoples to follow Jesus. Ascension gives funding directly to Frontiers for its general budget as well as for particular missionaries who work with Frontiers. Because these missionaries work in sensitive areas of the world, we do not list them on our website.
One Challenge International Ministries – The vision of OC International is that of healthy churches working together to reach the world for Jesus Christ. OC missionaries David and Debbie Kornfield are beloved members of Ascension. Though stationed in Pittsburgh, David and Debbie work with the churches of South America and spent many years living in Brazil.
Anglican Frontier Missions – It is the goal of AFM to reach the largest and least evangelized people groups that exist in the world. Ascension gives funding directly to AFM for its general budget as well as for particular missionaries who work with AFM. Because these missionaries work in sensitive areas of the world, we do not list them on our website.
Love and Care Family Uganda – Church of Ascension’s Sunday School children raise money through their Sunday offerings for this home in Uganda. The Love and Care Family home exists to provide a loving home, education, food and spiritual nourishment to abandoned and orphaned children in Uganda. We are particularly delighted to be in close partnership with the founder of this mission, Dr. Sylvia Tamusuza, who visits Ascension regularly when she is in Pittsburgh.
Emergency Relief Fund – While not a mission organization, Ascension regularly solicits funds for it’s Emergency Relief Fund in order to respond quickly to national and global disasters. Funds are often given through the Anglican Relief and Development Fund, World Vision, or like organizations.
