“DISCOVERING ANGLICANISM”
Wednesday evenings in April, 6:30 – 8pm
Location: Guildroom
Taught by Jonathan Millard (rector) and Jay Slocum (church planter)
Offered twice annually, this is a great course for anyone who wants to know more about what it means to be Anglican. Church of the Ascension draws people from many church backgrounds – Catholic, Protestant and Orthodox; as well as people from no church background at all! This class will help explain why we Anglicans do what we do and how we are similar to and different from other Christian bodies. We will be having a service of Confirmation on May 1st (Ascension Day). This course can prepare you for that – but confirmation is not required! The course can also be a great follow up to Discovering Ascension or Discovering Christianity. Anyone who would like to explore our faith a little more is welcome!! Maybe you are a long-time member of Ascension and simply want a refresher course, or a time to think more deliberately about the topics listed below.
The course is being offered concurrent with youth group and training choir, to make it easier for parents to attend. Childcare may be available. Please contact the church office if this is a need.
The topics of the evenings are as follows:
April 2 Jonathan Millard Introduction to Confirmation and Creeds
April 9 Jonathan Millard Church History and Book of Common Prayer
April 16 Jay Slocum Liturgical Worship
April 23 Jay Slocum Sacraments
The course will conclude with a class Sunday morning, April 30th at 9:15am. This will be a time for Q&A with the rector.
A service of Confirmation will be held Thursday, May 1st for those who wish to be Confirmed (in the course you’ll learn what Confirmation is!)
