A Brief History of Logos During the spring of 2005 we started up a Spoken Word team which participated in the Passion Readings on Palm Sunday and featured two sets of readers for the psalms during the regular Sunday service. We are planning to expand the team and the activities. First off, the spoken word team now has a name: Logos (Greek for "Word.") Second, we have a wide range of activities in the works for next year: 1. Reading of the psalms at 10:30 service – we want to make this a regular part of the Sunday worship, with a Logos team reading the psalm once a month or once every six weeks or something like that. The teams will range from 1-3 readers depending on the psalm and what seems to fit it best. 2. Storytelling – we want to have a troupe of storytellers who can tell stories to the younger kids on Sunday mornings as part of the Children's Ministries programming. We will work on stories - Bible stories, folktales, etc. - that compliment the lessons the kids will get in Sunday school. We'll also look for other opportunities for using storytelling. 3. Special services – we want to continue blending youth and adults for the Passion Readings at Easter time, and look into working with Children's Ministries for the Family Service on Christmas Eve. 4. Big projects – once or twice a year we will put on a larger drama or staged reading. These will be performed during an evening and open to the public, whether from Ascension or not. Our first one of these, which we will probably present in January or February, will be a staged reading of the book of Job. 5. Workshops - Since most of these projects will involve working in small groups, every two months, we will get together as a whole team for an afternoon of fellowship, brainstorming, and workshops on various performing skills like voice work, movement, improvisation, and such. 6. Other stuff – we'll look for other opportunities for performing throughout the year (like putting on a skit at the Laurelville talent show perhaps.) We'll have a lot going on throughout the year. Most of these projects will involve small teams working together for a couple of weeks on a project, then a new team coming together for another project. You can participate in one part only – maybe you only want to be a reader in the Sunday service, or only want to take part in the Passion Reading project – or you can try out many types of performing – try reading, find out about storytelling, take a part in a big production, get silly in a skit. Maybe you don't want to perform at all, but would like to help out with backstage work like costuming or set design (our big projects will need people working in those areas, too.) How ever you want to take part, we want you. So, if you are interested in being part of Logos, get in touch with Alex or Alan and let us know as we start to put together this exciting new part of the Student Ministries.
