Parish Retreat 2010
October 1-3
We hope all friends and members of the parish will be able to join us for our annual parish retreat the first weekend of October. The retreat has something for everyone - children, youth, adults! Married or unmarried! Preschool, college-aged or retired! We will gather together at Laurelville Mennonite Church Center, about an hour east of the city.
Our parish retreat weekend is a wonderful opportunity to be refreshed with good teaching, to enjoy beautiful natural surroundings and to get to know other people connected to our Ascension community. Programming will be provided for all age levels. There is also plenty of free time. Saturday afternoon we will have several optional activities (hikes, races, games). Saturday evening we plan to gather together for a Square Dance! There will also be opportunity for special prayer ministry throughout the weekend.
The Rev. Dr. Justyn Terry will be out teacher. His topic is "Learning to live the 'right way up' in an 'upside down world': An examination of the beatitudes." Dr. Terry is Dean President of Trinity School for Ministry in Ambridge, where he also serves as Associate Professor of Systematic Theology. He undertook his undergraduate studies in physics at Keble College, Oxford (UK), and in theology and ministry at Cranmer Hall, St. John's College, Durham (UK). He was ordained a priest in the Church of England in 1996 and served as rector of St. Helen's Church and a chruch plan in North Kensington, London. Dr. Terry received his PhD in Systematic Theology from King's College, London, in 2003. He and his wife, Cathy, live in Sewickley and have two young daughters, Sophia and Lydia.
