This winter is full of incredible opportunities for you to become more equipped to be a follower of Jesus. Classes take place Sunday mornings from 9:15 a.m. to 10:15 a.m. at Church of the Ascension. April 27th at 9:15am in the Parish Hall (main floor) You are welcome to out to a special 9:15am education hour with our former rector, The Rev. Douglas McGlynn, as well as our present rector, The Rev. Jonathan Millard. Doug McGlynn will be presenting on the Crisis in the Episcopal Church and the Realignment of the Diocese of Pittsburgh. A Q&A session for both Doug and Jonathan will follow. Breakfast is served at 8:45am if you would like to come early! May 4th at 9:15am in the Guildroom (second floor) Please join our rector for additional discussion on the issues surrounding the Realignment of the Diocese of Pittsburgh. At our annual meeting in April a sheet was distributed titled "Discerning the mind of the parish" in which the church staff solicited the members of Ascension on the subject of Realignment. It was through this process that we found there are some that would benefit from more discussion on these issues. This session is being offered in that spirit. May 11th at 9:15am in the Guildroom (second floor) Amy Schuering of the Crisis Pregnancy Care Center will be presenting on "The Birds, The Bees and The Bible". Most parents and educators agree that sex education is best when taught in the home. But what do you say - and when? How do you raise a standard in your home while the rest of the world is trying to tear it down? How can you deal with the shadows of your own sexual past? The Bible offers timeless answers and foundational truths upon which the education of your child rests. This vital message will equip and motivate parents of all ages. May 18th at 9:15am in the Guildroom (second floor) The Rev. Shirley Morris, Missionary to Uganda, will update on her ministry to the women of Uganda. May 25th at 9:15am in the Guildroom (second floor) The Rev. Paul Henry will present on "Preparing for Death - Affirming Life". In the Prayer Book we read "In the midst of life we are in death". What are some of the practical issues we should consider when we think about our own death? Paul Henry, a 1982 graduate of Trinity Episcopal School for Ministry, has served parishes in the Diocese of South Dakota, Western Michigan and Eau Claire, as well as living in l'Arche Community in Iowa - a residential setting for those with mental disabilities. He currently serves as a chaplain at The Western Pennsylvania Hospital. June 1st at 9:15am in the Guildroom (second floor) The Rev. Dr. Les Fairfield will present on 'Clashing Worldviews' within the Episcopal Church and why we are at this place in our history as a church. At our annual meeting in April a sheet was distributed titled "Discerning the mind of the parish" in which the church staff solicited the members of Ascension on the subject of Realignment. It was through this process that we found there are some that would benefit from more discussion on these issues. In keeping with this need, Dr. Fairfield has kindly agreed to speak to us during our education hour and to field questions at the end of his presentation. June 8th - No adult education. Please join us at Squaw Valley Park for our annual parish picnic! June 15th - No adult education- SPECIAL BREAKFAST BUFFET.
