Children's Ministry
Welcome to the Children's Ministry page!
Children are welcome at Church of the Ascension! We provide ministry programs for children and their parents to ensure that our young ones come to a living knowledge of Jesus Christ and are fully integrated into our community at Ascension. If you have any questions about our children's ministry, please feel free to contact the Director of Children’s Ministries, Katharine Luckett at 412-427-2778 or via email at

In a nutshell, here are two important beliefs that guide our approach to Children's Ministry at Ascension:

(1) Children Belong!

If you are like most parents, your decision about a church has much to do with opportunities for your child to grow in his or her faith and maturity. Most parents want to know that their children will be loved, nurtured and accepted as they are challenged to grow in their knowledge and love of Christ. The Children’s Ministry at Church of the Ascension seeks to do these things through what we call the three E’s – Evangelism, Equipping and Encouraging.

By Evangelism, we mean telling the good news about Jesus Christ and the love, acceptance and forgiveness He offers to us all. Children at Ascension are given opportunities, if they choose, to begin a relationship with Christ that we pray will last a lifetime.

By Equipping, we mean joining with you in preparing your child for a lifetime of challenges, vital decisions, and ministry within the Church. We do this by introducing your child to the treasures of the Bible and helping him or her to know the joy of a personal relationship with God.

By Encouraging, we mean building a healthy view of self and a sense of belonging within the body of Christ. We hope that every child will be encouraged by our times together and know more and more how precious he or she is in God’s sight. We also want our children to build friendships with other kids and adults and to grow in the knowledge that they are part of the church today, not just the church of tomorrow!

(2) Children are the Church of TODAY!

We want the children to be fully incorporated into the church family – we want them to belong (be a part of the community), believe (develop and grow in a relationship with Christ) and behave (work out the implications of faith in their lives). It is our calling and our responsibility to do the best that we are able to see this happen. To that end, we encourage your input and participation.
